TURA: A man who raped his neighbour’s six-year-old daughter on the outskirts of Tura continues to be on the run with police failing to nab him even after nine days of the crime. The accused, alleged to be an adult identified as Beljin M Marak, of Chasingre Ronggandi committed the crime on the child on April 20 following which the family filed an FIR the next day.
The accused reportedly committed the rape taking advantage of knowing the child since he happened to be a neighbour. The delay on the part of police to locate and arrest the accused has been criticised by the villagers and the family.
“We are trying to locate the whereabouts of the accused and our teams are on the job,” said police chief, Mukesh Kr Singh. Women’s organisations in the region have called for the accused to be ostracised from the village for the crime while demanding his early arrest.
