Gadkari announces 6000 cr road projects in Arunachal

ITANAGAR: Union Minister of Road, Transport, Highways, Inland Water and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari on Friday laid the foundation stone for construction of five major two-laning highway projects amounting to about rupees 6000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh.
The roads are Potin to Pangin, Pangin “ Pasighat, Changlang to border area in Tirap district, Mahadevpur “ Bori Dihing and Longding to Kaunbari road. The estimated cost of the projects is Rs 3000 crore he said, adding, out of the six projects, work orders for five projects have already been issued and remaining one will be issued shortly. The construction cost of the projects will be borne by the central government, including construction of three industrial corridors namely “ Bhairabkund to Ruksin, Tawang to Vijoynagar and Bomdila “ Tswang . Gadkari hoped that after construction of all the roads, the communication bottlenecks of this Himalayan state will be solved as most portion of the state will be connected with roads.
The Union Minister, who also holds the charges of Inland Water development, said beside developing road communication, the central government has given priority for developing of Inland waterways. He said, the government has identified four major rivers for developing waterways and they are – Ganga, Brahamaputra, Mahanadi and another river in Kerala . A meeting will be held tomorrow at Guwahati for the announcement of the names of the ports, he added. (UNI)
