Hunt for new India coach still on
New Delhi: With Team India ready to kick off its first international assignment post the ICC World Cup, Down Under, with a short series against Bangladesh next month, the hunt for a head coach is still on. While the names of former India stalwarts Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid taking over, are doing the rounds, there has been no official confirmation as yet, on who will be Duncan Fletcher’s successor. The BCCI working committee, which met in Kolkata on April 26 decided to engage the trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid in an advisory role. BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur, who is believed to have coined the idea of involving the trio, today said he will directly talk to them and seek their help. “I will be speaking to them personally, telling them what their role is going to be. They should be told how BCCI can derive their help to take Indian cricket to the next level,” Thakur was quoted as saying by a news channel. (UNI)
Trott announces retirement from international cricket
Bridgetown: England batsman Jonathan Trott has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket following the conclusion of the series against the West Indies. “This was a tough decision to make but I don’t feel my game is at the level you need to be at to play for England. I was honoured to be given the opportunity to come back and play international cricket again and I’m disappointed it didn’t work out,” Trott was quoted as saying on Monday by ecb.co.uk. Trott played 52 Tests, 68 One-Day-Internationals (ODI) and seven Twenty20 Internationals in a career that began in 2007. The 34-year-old batsman made his Test debut during the 2009 Ashes and made an immediate impact, scoring the first of his nine centuries. “I’ve had incredible highs and some real lows in an England shirt but wouldn’t change a thing. I look forward to continuing my career at Warwickshire and hopefully helping us win more silverware,” Trott said. Trott went on to become a vital part of a Test side that won an Ashes series away from home for the first time in 24 years, reached No.1 in the world and won a Test series in India for the first time in 27 years. The Warwickshire batsman was also the lynchpin of England’s ODI team, helping the side to the final of the 2013 Champions Trophy. (IANS)

Ancelotti brought smiles back in Madrid: Iker Casillas
Turin (Italy): Spanish football club Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas praised Carlo Ancelotti, saying that the Italian manager “brought the smile back to Madrid” following the reign of Portuguese Jose Mourinho. “He brought the smile back to Madrid. He gave us the 10th European Cup which we had been pursuing for 12 years. He closed a historical year (2014) with Real Madrid with four titles. Nobody had ever done that,” Casillas said on Monday, reports Efe. Regarding the Champions League semifinal against Juventus, the ‘Los Blancos’ captain said that it will be an exciting match. Both teams have many talents with diverse playing styles but the goalkeeper expressed that the team would try to leave Turin with an excellent result. Although Casillas does not expect a result similar to that of the quarterfinals against Atletico Madrid, as Juventus always set out to win in Italy, whether in the Champions League or in playoffs. The Real captain expects few goals and high tension until the bitter end, and that Real Madrid will benefit from playing every La Liga game as a final, pushing it forward in the fight for the title against Barca, which currently leads the standings.
