MBOSE declares results of HSSLC Science, Commerce, vocational streams

SHILLONG/ TURA: St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong dominated the toppers’ list in both the Science and Commerce steams of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination 2015, results of which were declared by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) on Thursday.
Naved Nagi topped the merit list in the Science stream while Priyanka Surana secured the first position in Commerce. Both are students of the prestigious St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School.
Of the total 3364 students that include 1699 female candidates, 2546 students cleared the HSSLC Science Examination with the total pass percentage of 75.68. In the Commerce stream, 2377 students appeared for the examination, 1719 were declared successful and the pass percentage was 72.32.
As has been the norm in Meghalaya, female candidates outperformed males in both the streams.
In Science stream, the top 9 positions out of 10 were secured by St. Anthony’s while the last spot went to RK Mission Higher Secondary School, Cherrapunjee.
Sacred Heart boys’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong and St. Edmund’s College (Higher Secondary Section), Shillong also figured in the list of toppers for Science sharing the 7th and the 9th spot respectively with St Anthony’s.
St. Anthony’s held sway in the Commerce stream as well managing to secure the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and the 8th positions out of the top 10 list. The 2nd, 6th and the 10th positions were bagged by St. Edmund’s College (Higher Secondary Section), Shillong while Nongthymmai Nepali Higher Secondary School, Shillong and
Seven Set Annexe Higher Secondary School, Shillong took the 7th and the 9th spots respectively.
On the other hand, Garo Hills received a jolt with none of the candidates from the entire five districts finding a spot in the top ten lists in either the Science or the Commerce stream.
In the vocational stream, the result was a 100 per cent as all the nine students appeared were declared passed with one first division, five second division, and three third divisions.
Female candidates secured an overall pass percentage of 78.42 in the regular category as compared to a pass percentage of 75.44 for the male candidates.
However, males did better in the non-regular category, with a pass percentage 61.11 as compared to the pass percentage of 53.13 for the female candidates.
In the Commerce stream too, girls performed far better than boys with 81.03 per cent pass in the regular category, while the boys managed 71.16 per cent.
In the non-regular category, the pass percentage of female candidate was 62.50 while the pass percentage of the male candidates was 41.06.
Surprisingly, only two schools – Christian Academy Higher Secondary School, Shillong and St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong – out of 54 in the entire State managed to secure pass percentage of 100 in the Science stream.
In the Commerce stream, five schools – Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mendal, Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, Loyola Higher Secondary School, Williamnagar, Sacred Heart Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong and St. Margaret’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong – managed a 100 per cent result.
