Now, donate at Archies stores to help widow mothers
New Delhi: Gifts manufacturing company Archies, in collaboration with international NGO Sulabh International, on Sunday launched a new campaign that aims at improving the life of widow mothers across India who have been shunned by their children.The campaign, ‘Adopt a Mom’, allows people to donate money at the nearest Archies outlet anywhere across India. The funds generated will be used by the Sulabh international for the social and economic upliftment of such widow mothers in various shelter homes.Sulabh has been involved with the welfare of widow mothers in different cities across India, including a shelter at Vrindavan, near Mathura, that it has maintained for several years.”Archies feels strongly about the cause and has pledged financial support to the widow mothers who have been shunned by their children, especially when they need it during their old age.”Their needs are fairly simple. However, they are not able to afford even that,” said a statement from Archies.(IANS)
Delhi bus driver beaten to death
New Delhi: A 42-year-old Delhi Transport Corporation bus driver was beaten to death on Sunday in a case of road rage, police said.The driver, identified as Ashok, was beaten by a motorcycle rider after the bus he was driving hit the motorcycle from behind in Mundka area of west Delhi around 9.30 a.m.A police officer said the motorcyclist and his mother, who was riding pillion, fell on the ground after being hit by the bus following which he entered into an argument with the bus driver.The heated argument progressed to the motorcyclist beating up Ashok — whom the former then left in an unconscious condition.The biker left the spot before the police could reach there.”The driver was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. As per the driver’s medical report, he has no external injury mark on his body. We are waiting for his postmortem report,” the officer said.The DTC bus was operating on an inter-state route — from Karampura in west Delhi to Haryana’s Bahadurgarh.Police were yet to make any arrest in the case. MP’s supporters and protesters clash
Ludhiana: Protesters and supporters of local Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu on Sunday had a scuffle here in which few photo journalists were allegedly manhandled, police said. A group of Youth Congress activists allegedly manhandled some media photographers when they were taking photographs of a scuffle between the protesters and supporters of Bittu here at Circuit house, police said. The protesters, who were some eight in numbers, including three women, were raising slogans against Bittu and showed black flags to him when he reached the Circuit House to participate in a meeting of the party, police said. The protesters alleged that Bittu has not paid a long pending bill of publicity material prepared for his campaign during the last Lok Sabha elections, a charge denied by Bittu. On seeing this, supporters of Bittu reached the spot and allegedly thrashed the protesters, eye witness said. Photo journalists present on the spot also clicked their cameras to catch the scene. Some youth Congress workers tried to allegedly snatch cameras of theses photographers and raised slogans against the media, police said. After a complaint from photo journalists, around four youth Congress activists were taken into custody, police said.(PTI)
Army sepoy found dead mysteriously in Jammu
Jammu: A Sepoy of Punjab Regiment was found dead under mysterious circumstances in outskirts of this wintet capital.Sunny Ram, 29, resident of Rajpura, tehsil Akhnoor was found dead late on Sunday night mysteriously in a canal at Malpur area of Kanhachak, police said.They said the deceased was deployed with 27 Punjab Regiment.”He was on leave,” police said, adding that a case has been registered and investigations started. Meanwhile, locals of the area this morning staged protest and blocked the road, alleging it to be a murder.The protestors were demanding probe into the matter and arrest of the culprit. (UNI)
