21 dead, 30 injured in an accident

Udhampur (J-K): Twenty one people died and at least 30 others were injured, six of them critically, when a bus they were travelling in rolled down into a deep gorge in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The passenger bus, which was on its way to Udhampur from Latti belt, skidded off the road and rolled down into the gorge in Maroti belt in the district, officials said. As many as 21 people have died and 30 others are injured, 6 of them critically, in the mishap, SP, Udhampur, Mohd Suleman Choudhary told. The number of causalities is expected to increase, he said, adding, 21 bodies have so far been recovered. The injured are being hospitalised and choppers have been requisitioned to airlift the critically injured people to Government Medical College hospital in Jammu from Mantalie belt of Udhampur. (PTI)

AAP govt slams BJP for doing politics on road rage

New Delhi: Delhi government has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party for doing politics on the road rage incident in which a DTC bus driver was allegedly beaten to death by a motorcyclist in North Delhi’s Mundka area on Sunday. BJP is doing politics on this issue, Transport Minister Gopal Rai told reporters here. The Minister also accused the saffron party of doing politics on the strike called by DTC bus drivers and conductors. The Minister said the AAP government would take strict action against those who do not treat bus drivers and conductors properly. Thousands of commuters, including school children, were affected due to strike call. Heavy rush was witnessed at metro stations as people dependent on bus had no option. Meanwhile, the government announced an immediate compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the family of the deceased driver and permanent job in the transport department to one member of his family. Traffic cop attacks woman with brick, suspended and arrested

New Delhi: In a shocking incident of police brutality, a head constable on Monday hit a woman with a brick in posh Golf Link area of central Delhi after a minor altercation following which he was suspended and arrested. The traffic policeman was arrested and a criminal case was filed against him after a video clip of the attack went viral. The victim, who was riding a two-wheeler, alleged that the constable demanded a bribe accusing her of violating traffic rules and when she refused he first abused her before hitting with a brick. The woman was with her two minor children. The video clip showed the woman picking up a brick and hurling it at the policeman’s bike while the constable was seen hitting her back with another brick. Two NIT students get USD 105,000 pay package

Jamshedpur: Two students of the prestigious National Institute of Technology have got job offers from American companies with a pay package of more than hundred thousand US Dollars per annum. Epic Systems Corporation of USA in the ongoing placement process has offered two students Kshitij Gupta and Ali Jaheer of BTech Computer Science and Engineering branch a pay package of approximately 105,000 US Dollars which equals to about Rs 67 lakh per annum, Dr Rajiv Bhusan, Professor In-charge (Media Relation) of NIT said in a release today. In the history of NIT Jamshedpur, this is the highest annual pay package that a student of the institute has got. Epic Systems Corporation is a leading health care software company of Vermont, Wisconsin, USA. The second highest package of Rs 32 lakh per annum was offered by a Japanese company, Works Applications, to two students – Subham Satish Baldava of Computer Science & Engineering and Bharat Singh Bhandari of Electrical Engineering Branch, the release said. Last year (2013-2014) the highest annual package of 50,00,000 Japanese Yen was offered by Works Applications to two students of Computer Science and Engineering of NIT here. A total of 600 job offers have been made to students till now as the placement season was likely to continue till June, 2015, the release added. (PTI)
