Nominations invited
The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has invited application for the Jeevan Raksha Padak series of Awards 2015 instituted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, for meritorious acts of humane nature in saving the life of a person in incidents like drowning, accidents, fire, electrocution, landslides, animal attack and rescue operation in mines, etc. Detailed information about the awards may be downloaded from East Khasi Hills district website http://eastkhasihills.gov.in.
Donation
The members of Meghalaya Poorva Sainik Parishad and Meghalaya Gorkha Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association paid tributes to those who lost their lives in the devastating earthquakes that jolted Nepal. A condolence meeting was held and members donated an amount of Rs. 81,092 to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the quake victims.
NSS prog
The NSS unit of Umshyrpi College, Shillong, conducted a special campaign programme at Kyrdemkulai, Zero Point, Ri-Bhoi District, from May 11-17. The unit organised free medical camp, awareness on HIV/AIDS, blood donation, besides other issues of sanitation. The unit also distributed clothes and donated a public toilet to the community under its asset creation programme.
Condolence
The Meghalaya State NCP has expressed shock over the untimely death of Subhash Deb on May 18. Deb was holding the post of secretary in charge transport of the party in the State. NCP president Sanbor Shullai sent his condolences to the family of Subhash Deb.
Meeting
The West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner will be holding a consultative meeting with the headmen, president and secretary of the villages, NGOs and environmentalists to discuss the issue of protecting and preserving the Myntdu River at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai, on May 26 at 11 am.
