Railway minister faces protest in UP
Allahabad: Union minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha had to face the ire of the railway employees particularly of the gangmen when he visited Atsarai railway station on Thursday to get the glimpse of the derailment of the nine coaches of Muri Express three days ago.The railway gangmen raised slogans against the minister over their pending demands and blamed the department for lack of basic facilities during the work. The Minister was forced to sit inside his saloon along with senior railway officials due to the protest. Four people were killed after eight coaches of Jammu bound Muri express derailed at Atsarai station on May 25 leading to distruption of train services on the busy Allahabad-Kanpur route for around 24 hours. Earlier Mr Sinha inaugurated an escalator and multi-functional complex at Allahabad Junction railway station. Later he went to the railway hospital to meet the persons who were injured in the Muri Express derailment. (UNI)
CBI sends notice to Allahabad Bank seeking TMC accounts details
Kolkata: CBI, probing the multi-crore rupees Saradha scam, has sent notice to a city-based branch of Allahabad Bank seeking details of nearly 21 accounts of Trinamool Congress maintained with it. “We had sent a notice the day before on Wednesday to the bank. We have asked for details of the accounts,” a CBI source told reporters. He said the notice had been sent to ascertain the quantum of funds maintained in these accounts and also the sources from which they came. This was subsequent to the notice which CBI had sent to the all-India General Secretary of Trinamool Congress seeking details of the party’s accounts in the first week of April. The notice was sent to Subrata Bakshi who is now holding the party post after the exit of Mukul Roy who had fallen out of favour. The agency had sought details of sources of income of the party during 2010-2013 and also the expenditure pattern. Irked by CBI’s move, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien tweeted thrice “@AITCofficial Harassment continues. Lots of pesky questions on Trinamool accounts. “@AITCoffical Big parties & leaders amass billions, little guys get the questions. Before questioning us, question yourselves & your daylight dacoity to fund your multi-billion dollar election campaign. @AITCofficial Trinamool accounts are transparent, nothing to hide: Derek.” (PTI)
Ruling AIADMK functionary hacked to death in broad daylight
Chennai: A functionary of the ruling AIADMK was hacked to death by a five-member at suburban Tambaram on Thursday morning. According to police sources, Krishnaraj (40), the Councillor of Ward 12 of Manivakkam panchayat, was killed by the gang in broad daylight near his house. This morning, he had come to Guindy on a two-wheeler for work, after which he was returning to his home, when he was waylaid by the gang, which attacked him with lethal weapons. Krishnaraj ran for his life, but the gang chased him and attacked him with machetes. Police said he died on the spot. His body has been sent to Chengalpet Government Hospital for post mortem. Police have registered a case and were on the look out for the gang members who fled the scene after committing the murder. The motive behind the murder was being probed, police said. (UNI)
Row in West Bengal Assembly over anti-chit fund bill
Kolkata: The Opposition Left Front on Thursday created ruckus in the West Bengal Assembly demanding tabling of an anti-chit fund bill in the House. Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra sought an adjournment motion in this regard but Speaker Biman Banerjee did not allow it. Angry with it, the Left MLAs raised slogans and started protesting in the well of the House for around 20 minutes till the end of the first session. Later on, Mishra told reporters that President Pranab Mukherjee has given his assent to West Bengal Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishments Bill, 2013 but the state government has failed to table it in the House. “Why is the bill lying for a long time? This should become a law as the President has cleared it. It is a secret why are they not moving forward with the bill,” the CPI(M) leader said, adding, that the Speaker is not even allowing any discussion in the House on this. He said that the party is demanding that those who lost their money in chit fund deposits should get refunds. (PTI)
Head Master suspended for refusing election work
KALABURAGI: The District Election Officer has suspended the Head Master of a Government School for rejecting the order of appointment as Assistant Polling Officer for the Gram Panchayat election scheduled for June 2. According to a press release here, Paundalik, Head Master of Government Primary School, Dongargaon, in Kalaburagi taluk, has been placed under suspension with immediate affect for rejecting the order of the appointment. When the order was served on him, he returned with an endorsement as ‘rejected’ along with his signature. In view of the disobedience of the order pertaining to election work, the said head master has been suspended under the provisions of the Karnataka Civil Service Classification, Control and Appeal Rules 1957, the release said. CBSE Class 10 results announced, website down
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results of Class 10 board examinations here on Thursday, a board official said. Schools can access the results on internet by giving their school code and e-mail-ID after registering themselves on www.results.nic.in, www.cbseresults.nic.in and www.cbse.nic.in “The results of Class 10 for all the regions have now been announced,” the CBSE official said. The official, however, admitted that the board website was down because of heavy traffic. “I have been trying for 15 minutes to check my result but the website is not responding. The server is down,” a student complained. According to a CBSE statement, a total of 13,73,853 students were enrolled for the Class 10 board examination. (IANS)
