Guwahati:Assam will host the next edition of South Asian Federation (SAF) Games, Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal said here on Saturday.
Sonowal said Assam has been selected for hosting the  SAF Games along with Meghalaya.
“The next SAF Games  will be held in Guwahati and Shillong,” the minister confirmed.
He said Assam government had sent a letter stating that it would extend all cooperation to organise the SAF Games here. A controversy had erupted after the SAF Games, which was to be allotted to Assam, was about to be  awarded to Kerala as Assam government reportedly expressed its inability to host the Games.  However, Assam government later clarified that it was ready to host the Games, with assistance from the Centre.
