Rly to launch new projs worth Rs 10K cr during fortnight prog
New Delhi:  New projects worth over Rs 10,000 cr will be launched and several old projects will be completed by Railways during its ongoing fortnight programme, Union minister Suresh Prabhu today said. The minister was speaking at the New Delhi Railway Station premises here after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Railways’ public sector undertaking Concor (Container Corporation of India) for upgrading of passengers amenities at the city station. “During this 15-day period, new projects worth over Rs 10,000 cr will be started or old projects be completed. Large- scale cleanliness campaign is also underway…And, our union men as brand ambassadors are also undertaking part in it,” Prabhu told reporters. Railways is celebrating Modi government’s completion of one year in office with a fortnight-long programmes from May 26 to June 9. (PTI)
Himachal targets 8.85 lakh tonnes foodgrain in Kharif
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has set a target of production of 8.85 lakh tonnes foodgrains during the present Kharif season, an official said on Wednesday. This included 7.30 lakh tonnes of maize and 1.32 lakh tonnes paddy. Besides, a target of 5.4 thousand tonnes oilseeds, 1.50 lakh tonnes potato, 30,000 tonnes ginger and 8.86 lakh tonnes vegetables has been fixed, said a state agriculture department spokesperson. He said the department is providing soil testing facility to the farmers for which 11 laboratories have been set up besides four mobile testing laboratories. (IANS)
3 Home Guard jawans hurt as sand mafia attacks mining squad
Shajapur (MP): Three Home Guard personnel were injured after suspected sand smugglers attacked mining officials when they were inspecting illegal excavation of sand from Nevaj river near Banka Khedi village in the district today. The incident occurred when the team raided the spot following a complaint of illegal mining received on the Chief Minister’s helpline, said Mining Inspector Reena Pathak who was leading the squad. The team found five tractor-trolleys which were allegedly excavating sand from the river-bed, Pathak said, adding the mafia members hurled stones at the team and also hit them with sticks in which three Home Guard jawans sustained injuries. They are identified as Manohar Rathore, Badrilal and Radheshyam, she said, adding the injured persons were admitted in a hospital at Akodia town. 21 people have been booked in this connection, they said, adding, no arrests have been made yet. Police officer attacked over Bhindrawale poster
Jammu: A police officer was attacked with a knife by a youth here in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday when police were removing posters of late Sikh militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Assistant Sub-Inspector Arun Kumar was attacked in Jammu city’s Satwari area. The official was removed to a hospital where he was declared out of danger, a police officer told IANS. A hunt has been launched to nab the culprit, the officer added. (IANS)
