SHILLONG: The Khasi Authors’ Society observed its 35th anniversary here on Friday. The yearlong Coral Jubilee celebrations came to an end with a colourful function which was graced by Health Minister AL Hek, who also served as the Art and Culture Minister while the Associate Official language status for the Khasi and Garo languages was achieved..
“The Bill for the Associate Official language was tabled and discussed at length until it was approved and enacted. The Khasi language is matured enough to be elevated with other Indian languages and deserved constitutional recognition,” Hek said while speaking on the occasion. He also released a book written by Andreas Sun.
To mark the celebration, a souvenir was released by the Health Minister, the first copy of which was presented to Kong Krom Rapsang, one of the patrons of Khasi Authors’ Society during the initial years.
The celebration function was presided by the President of Khasi Authors’ Society, Dr D R L Nonglait, in the presence of four founding members among others.
