SHILLONG: The Law Department has forwarded more than eight memorandums of various pressure groups opposing Village Administration Bill (VAB) to the District Council Affairs (DCA) Department for its comments.

An official with the Law department said that after receiving the memorandums, they were forwarded to the District Council affairs department for comments.
Several groups including members from women’s organizations had expressed reservation against the VAB passed by KHADC by stating that women’s empowerment was neglected in the Bill.
Earlier, Thma U Rangli (TUR) and other women’s groups had pointed out that there was a need to ensure gender equality in the VAB as there was no scope for s women’s participation.
They had also pointed out that the Section 2 (18), Section 6 and Section 8 of the Bill were anti-women and opposed these sections which denied women their rights as full members of the Dorbar and demanded that amendments should made before the Bill becomes a law.
