Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday offers ‘safe passage’ to the self-styled, fugitive commander-in-chief of the banned ULFA (Independent), Paresh Baruah, on ‘humanitarian ground’ and also extended financial assistance for treatment of the ailing social worker, Miliki Baruah, mother of the militant.
Gogoi stated, “If Paresh Baruah, wishes to see his ailing mother in his native place, the government would consider it on humanitarian ground.”
Meanwhile Miliki Baruah, an octogenarian social worker, has been ailing for some days at her Jeraigaon, Panitola residence in Dibrugarh district.
Gogoi wished her a speedy recover besides
extending financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh from CM’s Relief Fund for her treatment.
Miliki Baruah’s son, Paresh Baruah, the militant leaders has remained a head ache for security forces in Assam.
He has remained adamant not to talk with the Government of Indian unless the ULFA’s demand for sovereignty is not in the agenda of dialogue.
He is suspected to be taking shelter in Myanmar under the patronage of Naga rebel group NSCN-K led by S S Khaplang. He was earlier taking shelter in Bangladesh and Bhutan before being hounded out of those countries.
Baruah fled India in 1990 after the security forces’ drive against ULFA codenamed “Operation Rhino” and has been outside the country ever since. Gogoi wished Baruah’s mother Miliki Baruah, an octogenarian social worker, ailing for some days, speedy recovery and extended financial assistance to her.
