Cabinet decisions

SHILLONG:  In compliance with the Supreme Court directive, the State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal of the Excise department that no fresh license will be issued for setting up of liquor shops or bars within a distance of 200 meters from religious places or educational institutions or hospitals.
Informing this after a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said,  “Further no fresh license will be issued for retail sale of liquor or any other intoxicants at any side situated within 100 metres from the meeting point of any national highway or state highways”.
In view of this new proposal, he said that the owners of existing liquor shops and bars which fall within this distance from the meeting point of national or state highway will have to shift their business establishments to a new location within a period of six months.
“Similarly, the existing liquor shops and bars, which are within a distance of 200 meters from religious places or educational institutions or hospitals are also required to shift to a new place within a period of six months,” he said.
Hike in ex-MLAs’ pension: The State cabinet has increased the pension of former legislators from Rs.10,000 to Rs.17,000.  Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed this referring to the amendment of the Meghalaya Legislators Members Pension Bill, 2015.
