Govt to constitute State Food Commission

Panel to look after implementation of Food Security Act in M’laya

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government will constitute a State Food Commission as per the Meghalaya State Food Commission Rules which was tabled in the Assembly by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Clement Marak on Wednesday.
The State Food Commission will have three-year tenure and will consist of a chairperson, five members and a member secretary and is based on the National Food Security Act, 2013.
The functions of the State Food Commission will include monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Food Security Act, inquiring into the violations of entitlement of food grains as per the Act, giving advice to the State government, its agencies, autonomous bodies as well as non-governmental organizations and organizations involved in delivery of relevant services for effective implementation of food and nutrition related schemes, and to enable individuals to fully access their entitlements specified in the Act.
The Commission will have the powers of a civil court while conducting inquiries into anomalies in distribution of food grains.
Special Courts
Deputy Chief Minister in charge Law, Rowell Lyngdoh, on Wednesday introduced the Meghalaya Special Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2015 in the Assembly.
The Bill is aimed at amending the Meghalaya Special Courts Act, 2014 for expeditious trial for any offence against the state or any individual.
Co-operative Societies Bill tabled
Cooperation Minister H.D.R. Lyngdoh introduced the Meghalaya Cooperative Societies Bill, 2015 in the Assembly.
The Bill is to facilitate the formation and working of cooperative societies as accountable, competitive, self reliant, business enterprises based on thrift, self-help and mutual aid.
Nod to Administrator’s Rule in GHADC
The House approved Administrator’s Rule in GHADC with effect from August 18 to October 21 to enable the State Government to conduct elections after a resolution was moved by District Council Affairs Minister H.D.R. Lyngdoh in this regard.
Home Minister Roshan Warjri also laid the notification related to Meghalaya Private Security Agencies Rules.
