SHILLONG: The Shillong Premeir League Super Division match held between Shillong Lajong FC and Shillong United FC ended at a goalless draw on a wet and rainy Wednesday at the JN Stadium Shillong.
When the referee kicked off Wednesday’s game, the Lajong youngsters looked calm and composed with confidence brimming in them as they continued to remain favourites to retain the title this year.
However, as the rain poured heavily, it had a big impact wherein the players of both teams were unable to give full commitment to the match and hence their display on the pitch was below par.
The young Reds of Lajong had majority of the ball possession throughout the game and could have scored on a number of occasions but the opponents, Shillong United FC defended well to deny all of Lajong’s attempts on goal.
As the rain stopped in the second half, the teams started to pick up the rhythm but as luck would have it, neither side were able to break the deadlock for the day and the match ended all square. Towards the end of the match, Lajong had their last chance to find the back of the net, after an intended cross from Ksankupar Khongmalia coming from the left flank, almost sneaked into the far post.
With this draw, the defending champions, Lajong who are on top of the table remain undefeated, and are 10 points from four outings. The Reds will take on Malki Sports Club this Saturday at the JN Stadium Shillong at 3:30pm.
