GHADC polls: ANVC-B chief joins the fray

TURA: Altogether 36 candidates submitted their election papers to contest next month’s GHADC elections on Thursday, the fourth day for filing of nominations, with the largest bulk of 16 candidates being Independents while as many as 16 others were from Congress.
Chairman of the disbanded militant outfit ANVC-B Bernard N Marak was one of the candidates who filed his nomination papers as an Independent to contest from the Tura seat.
Prominent among those who filed their nominations included outgoing Chairman of GHADC Purno K Sangma (Congress) for Jengjal constituency in West Garo Hills, former Chairman and NPP candidate Cary Marak for Balachanda, the state minister Zenith M Sangma’s wife Sadhiarani M Sangma (Congress), former MLA and Congress candidate Ismail R Marak for Asanang, sitting MDC and Congress candidate Silgra Marak for Barengapara, and Garo Hills State  Movement Committee general secretary and a former student leader Augustine R Marak as the GNC candidate from Silkigre in South Garo Hills.
Three non-tribal candidates also filed their nomination papers in Tura. Congress candidate Sader Hussain and Independent candidate Sahinur Islam filed their nomination to contest from Shyamnagar constituency as well as Monirul Islam of the Congress for Balachanda.
The lone woman candidate to file nomination was Congress candidate Christilla M Marak for Babelapara constituency.
For Tura MDC seat, apart from Independent Bernard N Marak, others who filed nomination were Dulal Ch Sangma of the Congress and Dabo M Marak (Independent).
For Jengjal constituency the other candidates were Grahambell A Sangma of the NPP and Pansey R Marak (Ind). In Batabari seat the candidates were school teacher Sengnang Marak (Ind) and Mark Goera B Marak (Ind).
Four candidates filed their nomination papers for Raksamgre seat, namely Samuel Marak (Ind), Benedick Marak of the NPP, Joyson R Marak of the Congress and Francis Sangma (Ind). Others were Dormonath Ch Sangma of the Congress for Naguapara, Sanjib T Sangma (Ind) Dengnakpara,
Minbarson Sangma of the NPP for Asanang, Meckinson Marak of NPP for Babelapara, Mingjen Ch Marak from Congress for Amongpara, Tripon A Sangma (Ind) for Shyamnagar, Malcolm M Sangma of Congress for Rochonpara, Ajit Brilliant N Sangma (Ind) for Raksamgre, Hitler Daring (Ind) for Naguapara, Preepon A Sangma (Ind) in Shyamnagar, and Septerwin R Sangma of the Congress for Batabari.
In South West Garo Hills district lone Independent candidate Prepush K Sangma filed nomination for Boldamgre.
In East Garo Hills Thadious N Sangma (Ind) filed nomination for Darugre while in North Garo Hills Pongseng Marak (Ind) was the only candidate to file nomination from Bolsong constituency. In South Garo Hills, barring Augustine Marak of the GNC Independent candidate Sengbath R Marak also filed his nomination from Silkigre.
