Fake currency racket busted in Arunachal, one arrested
Itanagar: A fake currency racket was busted at Aalo in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh today, while distributing the fake currency notes in the market area.A police team lead by officer in-charge of Aalo Police station arrested one Md Piyar Ali, who hailed from Masundi Village in Mursidabad district in West Bengal and was currently running a shop at Yingkong in West Siang recovering a sum of Rs 1,79,000 in cash from his possession with denomination of RS1000 and 500 notes. A case was registered in this connection at Aalo PS and the accused person was remanded in police custody. (UNI)
4.5 magnitude quake hits Ukhrul in Manipur
New Delhi: A slight intensity earthquake, measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, hits Ukhrul, Manipur at 0004 hrs on Friday. The tremor was epicentred at 24.7 degrees North Latitude and 94.5 degrees East Longitude, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement.Its focal depth was 72 km. (UNI)
Three militants held in Mizoram
Aizawl: Three suspected militants of Manipur-based Hmar People’s Convention (Democrats) were arrested from Bilkhawthlir village in Kolasib district of Mizoram, police said on Friday. The three were arrested when they were allegedly extorting money from villagers yesterday, SP Lalzahngova said. Police also arrested two civilians of the village when they were on their way to allegedly hand over Rs 12,000 to the HPC(D) militants, he said. (PTI)
Two fundamentalists held in Assam,weapons seized
Guwahati: The police have arrested two persons allegedly associated with a training camp of a fundamentalist organisation, and seized 10 rifles in lower Assam’s Chirang district, a senior police official said on Friday. One person was arrested on Wednesday and, following his interrogation, police conducted operations on Friday in Daukhanagar and nabbed the other person associated with the training camp, IGP L R Bishnoi said. The second arrested person, identified as Md Sayed Mia, led the police to the backyard of his house from where eight handmade AK Rifles and two handmade INSAS Rifles were recovered, Bishnoi said. Stating the arms were found buried packed in plastic sheets, the IGP said initial interrogation has revealed that the weapons were being used to train the cadres in the camp busted by police two days back. Tharoor for consultation in Parl on migrants regularisation
Guwahati: Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor on Friday maintained that the Centre’s decision to regularise entry and stay of religiously persecuted minorities from Bangladesh and Pakistan should have been taken after wider consultation, including in Parliament.”I feel there is a need for greater discussion and consultation on the issue, including in Parliament,” he said. He said a comprehensive policy on migrants must be worked out by the government for long-term implementation. He said the migrants policy for the country should be worked out accommodating the provisions of the Constitution and keeping in mind the secular fabric of the country. (UNI)
