TURA: With the deadline for closure of nominations fast approaching, candidates continue to stream in to the deputy commissioners’ offices in the five districts of Garo Hills to submit their nomination papers to contest the October 12 GHADC elections.
The weekend holiday was not spared by the wannabe members of the council with as many as 14 candidates from four districts, barring North Garo Hills, submitting their nominations before the Returning Officer on Saturday.
Monday is the last for submission of nomination papers.
Among those who filed nominations were three each from the NCP and the NPP, one from the UDP and seven Independents.
In West Garo Hills Righteous Sangma of the NCP filed nomination from Babelapara constituency, Bilsan M Marak (NCP) and Atal R Marak (Ind) from Amongpara, Abdul Azad Sheikh (Ind) from Balachanda, Suronit Ch Momin of the UDP from Shyamnagar and Henrol B Marak (Ind) from Naguapara.
In East Garo Hills the NPP’s Brilliant R Sangma filed nomination from Samandagre, Metrinson G Momin (NPP), Newin M Sangma (Ind) and Marconi S Mankin of the NCP from Darugre constituency and Denang T Sangma (NPP) from Williamnagar constituency.
In South West Garo Hills district only one candidate, Independent Sukhen Sangma, filed nomination from Betasing constituency.
