Spouses of deceased MLAs to get 50 pc pension

SHILLONG: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday introduced the Legislative Assembly (Members Family Pension) Amendment Bill, 2015.
Following the amendment, 50 per cent of the pension will go to the wife or the husband of the deceased member of the Assembly.
In addition, the Minister also introduced the Legislative Assembly of (Meghalaya Pension) (Amendment) Act, 2015.
The Amendment Bill seeks to increase the pension of former legislators from Rs.10,000 to Rs.17,000 per month.
The State Cabinet had recently hiked the pension of former MLAs from Rs.10,000 to Rs.17,000.
Further, Tynsong also introduced the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya (Members Salaries and Allowance (Amendment) Act, 2015, which seeks to enhance the sitting allowance of the members from Rs.200 to Rs.600 per day.
The act also seeks to hike the daily travelling allowance of MLAs from Rs.300 within the State and Rs.500 outside the State to Rs.500 and Rs.800, respectively.
The rates were last amended in 2004.
