SHILLONG: RTI findings have revealed that the agreement signed by the KHADC and Syiem of Mylliem to convert Law Syiem at Lum Mawpat into a “Law Adong” or reserved forest was not done in a transparent manner.
As per the RTI documents received by one Disparsing Rani, the agreement to convert Lum Mawpat into a “Law Adong” was signed between former KHADC CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit and the Syiem of Mylliem Latho Manik Syiem without the knowledge of the Dorbar of Syiem of Mylliem. He also claimed that as per the RTI documents, the attempt to convert Law Syiem into Law Adong is illegal since it has violated the provision laid down in the Mylliem Syiemship Act, 1958 which was approved by the then Assam Governor on May 23, 1958 and the Hima Mylliem Scrap Reserved Forest Pact and the KHAD (Appointment and Succession of Chief and Headmen) Act, 1959.
