SHILLONG: The FKJGP Garo Hills has rejected the appeal of Lok Sabha member from Tura Purno A Sangma to allow non-tribals to participate in the upcoming GHADC polls.
FKJGP general secretary Raksrang A. Sangma said that the veteran politician should have considered the interests of the tribals first before making any statement, given the fact that he projects his political party (NPP) to be tribal centric.
Accusing him and NPP of betraying the aspirations of the local indigenous tribals of Garo Hills, the FKJGP said the agitating NGOs are not against open seats in general MLA and MP elections, but are only seeking absolute autonomy in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
“Can Purno Sangma cite even a single example how the MDCs of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Councils are supposed to protect the non-tribals? Is it the job of the GHADC to advocate for the non-tribals?” FKJGP questioned.
The FKJGP further said that the NPP supremo should instead concentrate in stabilizing his own party workers, many of whom are already disappointed with the NPP for allotting party tickets to non-tribals.
