SHILLONG: Several political parties, leaders and organizations have condoled the demise of veteran politician Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.
The State Assembly Speaker A.T.Mondal expressed shock and sorrow on the sudden passing away of the veteran state legislator.
In a statement issued to the media, the Speaker recalled the contribution of Lyngdoh in the struggle for statehood of Meghalaya and his debates in the Legislative Assembly.
“He was a great orator and his speeches in the Assembly were also humorous and lively. He also had deep interest and love for the House, and also attended the recent Autumn Session of the Assembly,” the Speaker said.
According to Mondal, with the passing away of Lyngdoh, the state has lost one of the tallest leaders. The Speaker also expressed condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of all the Members and staff of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The ruling coalition in the KHADC — People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) also condoled the demise of Lyngdoh.
“The death of a political stalwart like Hoping is huge a loss for the people of the State. He (Lyngdoh) will always be remembered as one of the ‘honest politicians’ and his sudden demise has left a huge vacuum in the  political sphere which will be difficult to fill in,” KHADC CEM PN Syiem and Deputy CEM Process T Sawkmie stated in a statement issued here on Saturday.
The Nationalist Congress Party, Meghalaya and KHNAM also condoled the death of Lyngdoh. The NCP said that Lyngdoh was a great parliamentarian and was respected by all the political parties irrespective of their affiliations.
Meanwhile, the KSU has also condoled the death of Lyngdoh. “We have lost a leader who stood by his principles till the very end,” KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa stated in a statement.
The executive Committee of Dorbar Shnong, Kench’s Trace also expressed its shock on the sad demise of    HS Lyngdoh who was also the executive member of the Dorbar Shnong since its inception. A condolence meeting was held on Saturday and 2 minutes silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
