GNLA ready to help locate kidnapped victim lKey suspect nabbed
TURA: A collaborator with the Garo rebel outfit A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) arrested by Meghalaya police on Saturday has revealed the identity of the militant leader behind the abduction of a central intelligence officer who is said to have been taken across into neighbouring Bangladesh on Thursday itself.
The revelation comes close on the heels of a statement released by the banned GNLA outfit which has denied its involvement in the kidnapping incident and has extended its help to search for the missing Central government official, Bikash Kr Singh (27), a resident of Patna who had been serving in Garo Hills as a junior Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO) for the last two years.
A suspected collaborator of the militant group ASAK identified as one Limpu R Marak was taken into custody from Rongara area by Meghalaya police following the kidnapping of the Central government official.
The arrested collaborator has reportedly revealed that the abduction was the handiwork of the ASAK outfit undertaken by a militant leader identified as one Sengbat Sangma.
Limpu is said to have confessed to authorities that Senbat Sangma was behind the abduction of the government official but at the same time denied having met him on the day of the incident near Panda reserve forest.
It is believed that the ASAK militants crossed the international border into Bangladesh shortly after the kidnapping incident to avoid police pressure.
The international border with Bangladesh has since been sealed with BSF troops placed on high alert in view of the abduction incident of the central official.
A top Central government officer in the rank of a Joint Director within the Union Home Ministry is already camping in South Garo Hills to monitor the situation while security forces have been deployed in large numbers to search and rescue the kidnapped victim.
The family of Singh has already reached Meghalaya from Bihar and is expected anytime to be in Garo Hills.
Following the daring abduction of a government official from a high profile department of the country, the banned GNLA has joined the bandwagon calling for the unconditional release of the central government agent at the earliest.
“We condemn the abduction of IB official Singh by unknown miscreants. No sensible organization could have abducted Singh who is a central Intel bureau agent from Delhi. This could be a handiwork of petty criminals for a payoff or a mistaken identity,” stated GNLA joint publicity secretary Garo Mandei ChM arak in a statement to the media on Saturday night.
