Jodhpur: Trial of the sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram will now continue in the sessions court here after the August 3 notification of the High Court leading to hearing of the trial in jail premises was withdrawn on Tuesday.
The notification was challenged by the accused in the division bench of high court after which the bench headed by justice Govind Mathur stayed the notification with directions to Asaram that neither would he allow his followers to assemble in the court or on the road between the jail and the court nor would he give any statement to the media. The court has now deferred the hearing on this matter for six weeks
“The court administration withdrew this notification paving the way for hearing of the case to take place in sessions court”, according to Asaram’s counsel Mahesh Bora. The trial of the cases against Asaram in Jodhpur was shifted to jail premises from August 5 following a notification by the Registrar General of the High Court on the direction of the chief justice citing threat to Asaram and the ruckus created by his supporters.
