SHILLONG:   The survey for laying of railway lines between Byrnihat and Shillong is nearing completion.
The North East Frontier Railway (NFR) sources on Tuesday informed that the survey work could not be undertaken in a five km patch following opposition from some local groups.
“The laying of lines will start as soon as the department gets the land,” sources said.
On the other hand, the work on 21.5 km Tetelia-Byrnihat rail line is not making much progress.
Sources said that as per the survey the track goes through the residence of a local MLA and so far the railways has not got the possession of that land.
“Railways already deposited the compensation money (for the land acquisition) to the State Government,” sources said.
It may be mentioned that only 2.5 kilometers of the Tetelia-Byrnihat project fall under Meghalaya.
