The Under Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Secretariat Administration Department, has informed that the State Government will commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 in front of the Main Secretariat Building at 9:30 am.
Programme
The District Administration of East Khasi Hills will organize a programme at Police Bazar on October 2 at 9 am to observe the 1st anniversary of the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Governor V. Shanmuganathan will be the chief guest on the occasion.
Cleaning drive
The Mawiong Umjapung Advisory Committee together with executive Durbar of Mawiong Umjapung will organize a cleaning drive in the locality and parts of NH-40 passing through the locality on Oct 2 at 9 am.
Meeting
A general meeting of the All Meghalaya Government UP School Teachers’ Association, Jaintia Hills Unit, will be held on Oct 3 at Senior Basic School, Chutwakhu Jowai. All teachers under the Association have to attend the meeting.
All alumni of Shillong Polytechnic have been requested to attend the general meeting on October 5 at 11 am in the institute auditorium.
The annual general body meeting of the All Central Government (Civil) Pensioners’ Association will be held at Sikdar Memorial Hall, Jail Road, on Oct 10 from 10.30 am.
Exam visit
The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) undergraduate 1st Semester Examination commenced on Thursday. The NEHU Examination Cell comprising Controller of Examination, Dr. L. Cajee, and Deputy Registrar T.K. Singha visited Buddha Bhanu Saraswati (BBS) College to oversee the smooth conduct of the examination.
Workshop
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P. Dkhar on Thursday chaired a workshop on ‘Awareness Cum Interactive Workshop on Best Practices of Solid Waste and Plastic Waste Management’ organised under the aegis of the Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign. The workshop was organised by the Urban Affairs Department and attended by representatives of 17 organisations, NGOs, NSS, Bharat Scouts and Guides, urban local bodies and the Meghalaya Pollution Control Board.
Office bearers
The executive body meeting of the Galaxy Sports and Cultural Club, Jhalupara, has elected new office bearers with Md. Atif Qureshi as president, Md. Quasim as general secretary and Mohsin Jameel as treasurers, besides others including 24 members.
Dry day
The District Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills District has declared October 2 as Dry Day in the entire district on account of Gandhi Jayanti. All IMFL licensed premises, bars, canteens, country spirit shops including out still shops will remain closed on the date.
Blood donation
As a part of its Diamond Jubilee celebration, Matri Mandir, Polo is organising a blood donation camp on October 3 from 10 am onwards in the Mandir premises.
