Dual-post Bill effect:  Chairman Metbah Lyngdoh under fire

SHILLONG: The Opposition alliance in KHADC — All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA) – is heading for a split with two of its allies — UDP and KHNAM – deciding to come out of the alliance for “lack of unity among the partners”.
Both the parties, however, have maintained that they are going to remain in the Opposition.
However, HSPDP, another ARPA partner, is yet to take a call on the matter.
The decision to pull out of ARPA was taken a day after all the four members including the ARPA chairman Metbah Lyngdoh tendered their resignations in view of the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Amendment Bill, 2015, which was passed by the State Assembly recently..
The four MLAs who submitted their resignations to the KHADC chairman on Wednesday are Sanbor Shullai (Laban, NCP), Metbah Lyngdoh (Mairang, UDP), HB Nongsiej (Mawthadraishan, UDP) and KP Pangniang (Rambrai Jyrngam, HSPDP).
Informing this here on Thursday, UDP MDC from Shella, Teiñwell Dkhar told newsmen that they have decided to come out of the ARPA after its chairman resigned from the post of MDC without consulting them.
Echoing a similar view, the KHNAM MDC from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency James Ban Basaiawmoit said that they had been betrayed by the Mairang legislator.
He also said that it is pointless to remain with ARPA since there was no unity among the ARPA partners.
“The fact is that our unity is restricted within the four walls of the KHADC. Outside every member of ARPA is busy with his or her own agenda,” the KHNAM MDC said.
“I also want to make it very clear that we are not going to join the Congress-led ruling coalition — PDF,” he added. Meanwhile, HSPDP MDC from Mawthengkut Morning Mawsor said that his party was still undecided whether they would also disassociate with ARPA. “I would like to urge the UDP and KHNAM to reconsider their decision. I personally feel that we need to have another meeting to resolve the issue,” Mawsor said.
