SHILLONG: Leaders of the United Democratic Party (UDP) toured Garo Hills recently to address party workers and public meetings in a bid to drum up support for the party’s candidates contesting in the upcoming GHADC elections slated for October12.
The team comprising of MLA s, T Chyne, Jemino Mawthoh and party general secretary A F Dkhar, met party workers and candidates contesting from North, East and West Garo Hills besides addressing public meetings.
The leaders stressed on the need to strengthen the autonomous district councils which “have been subjected to gross misuse by national parties whose agenda is evident from the level of interference on matters of tribal identity and preservation of customs and traditions”.
The party was confident of its poll prospects and appealed to the electorate to bring in change by voting en masse for the UDP.
