Kohima: Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani has called upon the youth of Nagaland to start having their own business by making use of the various schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Irani, who on Friday laid the foundation stone of Mahatma Gandhi Academy of Human Development (MGAHD) at Chuchuyimlang in Mokokchung district, some 155 km from the state capital, made a special reference to the ‘Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana’ and asked the youth of the state to avail the scheme.
The Union Minister said the Prime Minister has launched PMMY as start-up initiative where one can take loan from Rs 50,000-Rs 10 lakh without giving any collateral.
She was informed that people of Chuchuyimlang and people of Nagaland are very industrious, competent and exhorted the Chief Minister T R Zeliang to ensure youngsters benefitted from the scheme, Irani said.
MGAHD is a joint initiative of Nagaland Gandhi Ashram (NGA), Chuchuyimlang and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai.
Irani paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Sashtri during her yesterday’s speech and said both gave distinct identities to India to the rest of the world.
“Mahatma Gandhi gave the message of non-violence, the message of compassion… Lal Bahadur Sashtri gave a message of commitment of governance towards the welfare of people and he coined the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’,” she said. (PTI)
