Rangdajied United score two over Shillong United
Shillong: Rangdajied United scored two second half goals to beat Shillong United in a Shillong Premier League match on Saturday at Polo Grounds. Coming from a 1-0 over Royal Wahingdoh in their last match, the Blues looked dangerous throughout although facing resistance from the young Shillong United side. Bansharai Sun scored in the 62nd minute for the lead before the scores were doubled in the 78th minute when newly signed player Alex Silveira successfully converted an attempt at goal. Shillong United pressed hard but were unable to reduce the margin before finally going down 2-0 at the last whistle. Mawkhar demolished Madan 7-2 in a Second Division game following a hat trick by Alem Khongwir. Alem scored in the 3rd, 27th, and 53rd minutes while Kenneth Thabah scored in the opening minute before adding one more a minute before half time. Nungshimoa Jamir also scored a brace (13 & 89) as Mawkhar made it to a 7-2 success. For Madan, Flansingh Langstieh (11) and Isak Lalremtluanga (29) were the goal scorers. Sanmer scripted an exciting 3-2 finish against Nongmensong in a Third Division game while Lumpyngad thrashed Kharang 4-1.
Ronaldinho escapes unhurt in car accident
Rio De Janeiro: Two-time FIFA World Player of the Year winner Ronaldinho has escaped unhurt from a car accident in Brazil. The 35-year-old was on his way to celebrate his mother’s birthday in Porto Alegre when the vehicle driven by his personal chauffeur veered of the road, Xinhua reported. Nobody was injured in the accident and there were no other vehicles involved. Photos published on social media showed the car tilting in a shallow roadside ditch. The accident came just days after the former Barcelona star left Brazilian outfit Fluminense by mutual consent. He failed to score or provide an assist during his nine matches in three months for the Rio de Janeiro club. Assis has denied the forward might retire and promised “there could be some surprises” amid speculation linking him to the US and China. (IANS)
Uthappa’s brace gives Indian hockey team 2-1 win
Auckland: Attacking midfielder S.K. Uthappa scored a brace as the Indian men’s hockey team overcame New Zealand A 2-1 to register their second consecutive victory on their Kiwi tour here on Saturday. Karnataka linkman Uthappa found the net twice in the fifth and 34th minutes to facilitate the win for the 2014 Asian Games champions, who will now face New Zealand in Nelson on Tuesday. India on Friday defeated the New Zealand A side 3-1 in their first match. During the match, the first quarter saw the Indians on spirits. They made the most of a small opening as experienced forward S.V. Sunil entered the rival circle and passed the ball to fellow attacker Nikkin Thimmaiah, who fed Uthappa for a field goal in the fifth minute.  The goal gave India the much sort after early lead as they pushed ahead by maintaining ball possession and inflicting regular pressure on the home team. With no further goals being scored, India won 2-1. (IANS)
