Mumbai: A shrewd tactician and someone who knows implications of any policy decision like the back of his hand, Manohar has been a trouble-shooter since 2005, when he became the vice- president and ‘Man-Friday’ to Sharad Pawar, who became the president that year.
Manohar’s tenure will be of just under two years before the BCCI goes into AGM in 2017 but he does have his work cut out.
He has to decide on whether Srini would be BCCI’s representative in the ICC till June 2016 and whether the already suspended franchises CSK and Royals deserve a harsher punishment.
Besides tightening the anti-corruption tools of BCCI, which in turn will help IPL, Manohar will also have to prepare a roadmap with cricket experts which will enable India to do well abroad.
Following is the list of reforms suggested by newly-elected BCCI president Shashank Manohar:
1) Appointing Ombudsman to address all the conflict of interests issues pertaining to players, administrators
2) Attach a government investigative agency to look after on-field corruption issues as BCCI doesn’t have investigative powers.
3) Appoint independent auditor to check how the state associations are spending the BCCI’s annual grants which range from 25-35 crore per association.
4) Upload the BCCI constitution, balance sheet (already annual reports are uploaded), expenditures of over and above Rs 25 lakh on board’s website.
5) Reviving National Cricket Academy as a Centre of Excellence, which will provide a supply line for Indian cricket.
6) Getting women’s cricketers under BCCI’s Central Contract (matter already approved by Finance Committee).
7) All the old records and documents will be available at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai for the members to have a look whenever they feel necessary.
8) Smooth organisation of ICC World T20 to be held in India next year.
9) To abstain from casting chairman’s vote during any BCCI elections till constitution is amended.
10) Not to use president’s discretionary powers to resolve any dispute as majority’s view will be taken into account. (PTI)
