AWWA sends war widows on national integration tour
Jammu: Army Wives Welfare Association on Wednesday sent a group of 25 war widows from Jammu and Kashmir on a seven-day national integration tour, as part of AWWA’s golden jubilee year celebrations. During the trip, aimed to promote the spirit of integration and inspire goodwill, the ‘veer naris’ (women whose husbands died in war or insurgency) will visit the Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Lotus Temple, Akshardham Temple, Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, a defence spokesperson said. This will also give them an opportunity to meet and interact with women and families of Army establishments in New Delhi and Agra, the spokesman said. The celebrations will culminate next year, when the association will mark its golden jubilee. A tour was flagged off by Rashmi Hooda, Regional President, AWWA, Northern Command from Udhampur, he said. Hooda presented all the war widows with travel hampers and shawls, he said, adding, the trip will provide them an opportunity to visit historical, religious and national monuments in the two cities. The AWWA, Northern Command has chartered for fulfilling the societal obligation through social empowerment and skill-building of spouses, war widows, dependents of Army personnel since its inception. Sheena Boara case: Court orders interrogation inside jail
Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Wednesday granted permission to CBI to interrogate in jail former media magnate Indrani Mukerjea and two other accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. RV Adone, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Esplanade court while allowing the CBI plea in its order directed the investigating agency to give prior notices to the jail authorities before visiting the Arthur road jail and Byculla prision respectively for interrogating the accused persons. Following the court directive CBI will quiz Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai in jail. The agency submitted that if permission for interrogation is not given then it will have to rely on the investigation conducted by Mumbai Police. (UNI)
Give top priority to basic devp in tribal areas: Oram
Jaipur: Top priority should be given to basic development in the tribal areas and the quality of works be maintained, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram has said. The state-run tribal plans and schemes be taken up and road map be prepared to achieve time-bound goals with top priority, he said. Oram was addressing an official review meeting with the officers here last evening. The officers should identify the areas where the developmental and scheme oriented works were on slow pace, and give them proper priority so that they could be completed, he advised in presence of Rajasthan Minister for Tribal Area Development Nandlal Meena. Education, Medical and Health, and Livelihood mission should also be given top preference so that tribal people could get all benefits of the central and state governments’ scheme. Rajasthan Tribal Minister Meena stressed that the Centre should provide more funds and schemes to the state’s tribal people saying this would be required to open new schools and hostels in the planned areas. Six injured in group clash as goat strays into field in UP
Muzaffarnagar (UP): Six persons were injured in a clash which took place between two groups after one side’s goat strayed into the other side’s field at Nai Nagla village in Shamli district. Jhinjhana police station outpost incharge Krishan Kumar said, trouble arose when the goat of one person identified as Bhura entered into the field of another person named Intazar last evening. Following this, Intazar objected and confronted Bhura, he said. The argument between the two led to violent group clashes in which fire arms were used and stones pelted, he said. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, Kumar said, adding, security has been tightened in the village and extra police personnel have been deployed in the area. (PTI)
Two arrested for attempts to dupe UP Chief Medical Officer
Siddharthnagar (UP): Two persons of a gang of four were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to dupe the Chief Medical Officer of Uttar Pradesh by posing as personal assistants of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. As per the complaint filed by CMO Anita Singh, a person claiming to be a personal assistant of the CM, called her on October 2 and demanded Rs 2 lakh from her, SP Ajay Kumar Sahni said. The caller apparently threatened the CMO that he will get her suspended if she failed to give the money, he said. The number was put on surveillance and was located near a hydel tri-section on Wednesday, police said. Hariram and his aide Shiv Kumar were nabbed from the area, they said. (PTI)
