SHILLONG: People in West Jaintia Hills now do not need to visit Government office to lodge their grievances as they can now share their grievances through the new “Whatsapp” public grievance redress mechanism.
The district administration of West Jaintia Hills has established one of its kind public grievance redress mechanism based on Whatsapp application.
The hallmark of this mechanism is its simplicity, as the citizen having any complaints can drop a text, an audio or a video message on Whatsapp to this special BSNL number 9436394363.
West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Arun Kumar Kembhavi said that the complaints may be of any issue related to public interest, be it delay in obtaining certificates, localities not getting electricity or water supply, non removal of garbage and others such issues.
According to him, when a citizen sends a complaint, it will be forwarded to the group “DCC Jowai”.
He said that all the members of the District Coordination Committee are the members of this group, adding that once the group receives the complaint, the concerned line department officer shall take action and will also update the Deputy Commissioner on the action taken. The same will also be informed to the complainant, the Deputy Commissioner informed.
Citizens can lodge their complaints in three languages: Pnar, Khasi or English. People who do not have Whatsapp in their phones may choose to send an SMS or even register their complaint through “DC Jowai” Facebook page.
