Guwahati: Just a couple of days after he joined the BJP, a former militant leader and an elected member of Dima Hasao District Autonomous Council, Mihir Garlosa alias Jewel Garlosa was arrested by police from his rented residence in the city on Sunday in connection with a murder case registered against him  in 2008.
A police source informed that the former self-styled chairman of now disbanded Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel Garlosa faction), Jewel Garlosa was on Sunday  arrested in connection with Langting police station (in Dima Hasao hill district) case No. 24/2008 U/S 122/302/121/121(A),121(B) in connection with murder of one Bijon Haflongbar, a former cadre of DHD (Dilip Nunisa faction).
Garlosa was elected to Dima Hasao Autonomous District council in May, 2013 as an Independent candidate.
He was one of the nine council members who joined the BJP Friday last, virtually paving the way for the BJP to usurp power in the hill council from the Congress. Out of those nine council members eight were from Congress and Garlosa was the sole Independent member.
The arrest happened even as the BJP was all set to stake claim to form the Executive council in the hill district autonomous council in the wake of nine council members joining the saffron party.
