Justify demand for CM, Cabinet colleagues’ resignation

SHILLONG: The Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep (Khasi & Jaiñtia), a body of the traditional heads, has come up with a five-point handbill to justify its stand in demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and his Cabinet Ministers.
The handbill was prepared during the general meeting of the SKNSKBH held here on Saturday.
Revealing the points in the handbill adopted by the Synjuk here on Sunday, general secretary of  SKNSKBH, RL Blah said, “The first reason for making the demand is the attempt on the part of the State Government to abolish the prevailing traditional practice and customs of the Bri U Hynñiewtrep (Khasi indigenous community) by bringing the Ordinance and the fresh draft bill to empower the Rangbah Shnong and the Dorbar Shnong.”
Blah cited the alleged attempt by the MUDA to encroach into Sixth Scheduled areas as the second reason for demanding the resignation of the Cabinet members and the CM.
“The decision of the State Government to pass the Amendment Bill in the middle of the term when the KHADC was trying its best to safeguard and protect the prevailing traditions and customs, the failure of the Government to come up with a strong legislation to protect the land and property of the indigenous people and the State’s failure to come up with a notification to direct the various Government departments to start accepting the certificates issued by the Rangbah Shnong after the traditional heads received fresh Sanad (appointment letter) from the Syiem were the other three reasons put forward by the SKNSKBH for demanding the resignations.
The SKNSKBH (Khasi &Jaiñtia) general secretary also said that the traditional heads have decided to go ahead with the “Procession Bah” on October 30 to demand the resignation of the Chief Minister and his Cabinet Ministers.
The procession would start from Lachumiere at 11 am.
