TURA: Lok Sabha member from Tura and NPP supremo Purno A Sangma is confident his party will bag the largest share of seats in the GHADC elections when results are declared on Thursday even as he expressed concern over polarization of votes by different communities.
“I am confident we will be forming the next executive committee in the GHADC when the election process gets over by the end of this week,” said the senior Sangma.
While welcoming the high turnout of voters in the polls, Sangma expressed concern    over the fast emerging trend of voters’ polarization in the Garo Hills.
“Votes were polarized in some of the constituencies such as Balachanda and Shyamnagar which is not a good trend for our democracy,” said Sangma.
He added that despite polarization of the votes, the NPP was confident of doing well in both constituencies.
“In Shyamnagar the fight is between the NPP and the BJP. Congress is not even in the fray,” claimed the former Lok Sabha Speaker while adding that in Balachanda it was a fight between his party candidate and an Independent.
Meanwhile, Sangma has indicated that all did not go down well for the party in the prestigious Williamnagar constituency of East Garo Hills where its sitting MDC Denang T Sangma is seeking another term in the council.
“In a number of polling stations in Williamnagar which happened to be our stronghold our voters could not vote due to the boycott threat from militants and organizations alike. In spite of these setbacks we are hopeful of sailing through. We will not seek a re-poll,” said Sangma.
