SHILLONG:  The ruling coalition in the KHADC — the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) — has received a shot in the arm when UDP has decided to join hands with the alliance.
With the joining of the three UDP MDCs the strength of PDF has gone up to 19 in the House of 24.
It may be mentioned that the strength of the present House was reduced to 24 with the resignation of six members following the enactment of the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) (Amendment) Act, 2015, which bars MLAs from holding dual post.
The MLAs who had quit the post of MDC are HDR Lyngdoh (MLA, Sohiong), Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit (MLA, Nongkrem), Metbah Lyngdoh (MLA, Mairang), Phlastingwell Pangniang (MLA, Rambrai Jyrngam), Sanbor Shullai (MLA, South Shillong) and Brolding Nongsiej (MLA, Mawthadraishan).
“I have officially received the letter of support from the UDP Parliamentary Party leader Teiñwell Dkhar,” the KHADC CEM Pynshngaiñ N Syiem informed here on Monday.
Stating that it is a major boost for PDF, he appealed to the MDCs of KHNAM and HSPDP to join the ruling coalition.
The KHADC CEM also said that he had been in favour of having an all-party Executive Committee (EC).  “I feel an all-party EC is the need of the hour,” Syiem said.
It may be recalled that recently UDP and KHNAM came out of ARPA, which is an opposition alliance in the KHADC.
