Female mahout from Assam gets lifetime achievement award

Kolkata: Elephant specialist Parbati Barua has been awarded the lifetime achievement award at the Kolkata International Wildlife and Environment Film Festival.
Hailing from the erstwhile royal family of the Baruas of Gauripur, now in Assam’s Goalpara district, Barua was awarded on Monday for her tireless work on wildlife conservation.
The ‘Forest Man of India’ Jadav Payeng, who created a complete forest in a small island on the river Brahmaputra was awarded with ‘Desham Save the Tiger Award’. Other awardees include eminent industrialist and wildlife filmmaker Navin M Raheja and ‘Green Oscar’ winner Ashwika Kapur.
The organisers said the second edition of the film festival will begin from December 2 in 2016. (PTI)
