SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has reserved the judgment on the ban on extraction of limestone and other minerals after hearing a review petition filed by the State Government.
The High Court of Meghalaya on June 30 had passed an order clamping a ban on extraction of limestone and other mining activities in the State.
Later, the State Government filed a review petition to get the judgment vacated. During the hearing, Additional Advocate General, BP Todi, assisted by KP Bhattacharjee, government advocate, appeared for the petitioners. While advocate HL Shangreiso, represented the respondents.
Todi pointed out that a notification was issued to the State Government on August 5 this year by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in consultation with Central Government.
However, the Court said that it would be appropriate for the parties to file additional affidavits giving response to the queries raised during the course of hearing within a week.
