Cow slaughter ban:VHP asks Centre to honour HP high court order
New Delhi: VHP on Friday welcomed Himachal Pradesh High Court order directing the Centre to consider enacting a law banning cow slaughter and asked the BJP-led dispensation to honour its “commitment and public sentiments” within three months. The right wing outfit also hoped that the Congress, which has already banned cow slaughter in many states during its tenure, and other political parties will leave their “narrow political motives” and come forward to support the government in doing so. “All concerned should come forward for the immediate compliance of the order. To honour its commitment, public sentiments, compliance of the court’s order and constitutional provisions, the Union Government should not delay it any more,” VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain said. Attacking those opposing the ban, Jain said, “Nowadays, some so-called intellectuals are busy hurting Hindu sentiments by making a mockery of ban on cow slaughter for their vested interest. “Now we hope that after this clear verdict of the High Court, they all will also support its implementation and stop defaming the Central Government.” The High Court has directed the Centre to consider enacting a law to ban cow slaughter and also put a complete ban on sale, export and import of beef and beef-products in India within next three months. Bhubaneswar: At least 11 students, including nine girls, were injured when a gas-filled balloon exploded near Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence here when they were on way to wish him on his birthday on Friday. The mishap took place when a large number of students among others were proceeding to Naveen Niwas to wish the chief minister and a huge bunch of gas balloon carried during the procession exploded near Airport Square, Commissioner of Police R P Sharma told reporters. Some people sustained minor injuries and they were rushed to hospital for treatment, he said. As many as 11 persons, including nine girls and two boys, were undergoing treatment at the Capital Hospital after the explosion and all of them are stable, said hospital Superintendent Dr Binod Mishra. “None of them is serious. Their condition is all stable. They sustained burn injuries on forehead, arms and other exposed parts of body,” Mishra said adding they were being treated at a special ward. Sources said most of the injured girls are from Ramadevi Women University.
