FIR against miscreants, not NGOs: DCC president

TURA: The acting president of the District Congress Committee (DCC), East Garo Hills, Helpingson G Momin has clarified that the FIR lodged by him at Williamnagar in connection with the bandh call during the GHADC elections was not against any recognized NGO. “The FIR was filed against miscreants who distributed pamphlets on the eve of the elections in the name of ‘A’chik Jat’,” Momin said urging NGOs not to “misunderstand his actions”. It may be mentioned that pamphlets cautioning the people not to vote were scattered by miscreants in several parts of Tura town and other areas on the eve of the GHADC elections which possibly led to the low voter turnout in Tura
