Gogoi orders probe into farmer suicide incident
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday ordered an inquiry by the Chief Secretray into the incident of a farmer suicide in the first week of September in Nalbari district. According to an official release, Gogoi asked Chief Secretary Vinod Kumar Pipersenia to find out the reasons behind the suicide of Dibakar Kalita of Tihu area. Gogoi also said the farmers can directly contact the Deputy Commissioners if they face any problem. The Chief Minister further directed all the DCs to resolve farmers’ issues immediately. Meanwhile in a function to launch a scheme during the day, Gogoi said the state government is giving top priority in development of the villages. If the productivity of the farmers do not increase, the economy of the state will not grow, he added. (PTI)
Tripura Police to accept FIR through SMS, e-mail
Agartala: An FIR can now be filed with Tripura Police through an SMS or via an e-mail, an official statement said here Sunday.”Tripura Police have taken an initiative to register FIR (First Information Report) through an SMS or through an e-mail,” said a police statement.The statement said the complaint must indicate the name and address of complainant, the nature of the offence and the place of occurrence.Earlier, Tripura Police as part of their initiatives to curb rising crimes against women launched a toll-free helpline number for women in distress to lodge their complaints.”The helpline (1091) would be operational 24 hours and anyone across the state can dial the number to seek help or alert the police,” a police spokesman told IANS. Assam govt to release white paper on central grants next month
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said the state government will release a “white paper” by next month on Centre’s grants to the state. The state government will publish details of all grants received under Plan and non-Plan segments, an official release said. The details include flow of funds from 2001 to 2015 during both UPA and NDA regime, it added. Besides, the ‘white paper’ will include details of reduction of funds by the present NDA government too, Gogoi said. Gogoi also challenged BJP’s Assam unit in-charge Mahendra Singh to publish a ‘white paper’ to inform public about the grants given by the earlier and the current NDA governments to the state. “The common people have the right to know how much of the election promises have been fulfilled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Gogoi said. Three advocates killed in road accident in Assam
Tinsukia: Three prominent advocates of the Tinsukia Bar Association in Assam were killed and another was seriously injured in a road accident near Maithang Gaon of this district, police said on Sunday. The accident occurred when the car of the advocates, who were returning from Arunchal Pradesh, overturned after hitting a tree late last night, police officials said. The injured lawyer was admitted to hospital, he said. (PTI)
