Advisory to motorists
The East Khasi Hills SP has also advised motorists to avoid parking in no parking zones by stating that action will be taken as per the Motor Vehicles Act which may also involve towing of the vehicle.
“Avoid driving under influence of liquor, as a case will be registered for drunken driving and when stopped by police during the night do stop to avoid suspicion,” the SP said.
The police official also asked motorists not to violate no entry rules, especially during the night, as regular cases will be registered under Indian Penal Code for endangering lives. The SP also asked motorists to avoid overtaking during traffic jams as it will compound the problem.
The SP further said that from October 20 to 23, no trucks will be allowed to enter the city between 8 am and 8 pm except for those carrying essential commodities. All trucks coming from Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi should ply through the Shillong Bypass.
