SHILLONG: As Shillong gears up to celebrate the biggest festival of the Hindus, the city police have deployed extra manpower in the city to ensure that the Puja celebrations pass off peacefully.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M. Kharkrang said security has been tightened throughout the city with additional deployment of police personnel.
Stating that the Central Puja Committee and the various Puja committees in the city have been advised to install CCTV cameras in the pandal, besides taking other security measures, the SP asserted that police were ready to handle any eventuality.
Kharkrang, however, dismissed the use of drone cameras to ensure security during the celebrations.
Admitting that the Shillong Traffic department had no answer to the ever-growing traffic jams in the city, the district police chief said, “We would enforce the law strictly against any illegal parking.”
