SHILLONG: The Confederation of Ri-Bhoi People (CORP) has strongly condemned the special permission given to sell liquor openly at the venue of the NH7 Bacardi Weekender Concert.
“The people of Meghalaya are celebrating Durga Puja from October 20 to 23 and it is totally unethical and illegal to hold a concert and sell liquor freely. We cannot predict what ill-effects it might have on those days,” CORP president Dorister Sulin said over phone to The Shillong Times on Wednesday.
He also asserted that his organization will file an RTI to find out who had given permission to the organisers to sell liquor at the venue of the concert.
Incidentally, a notification from the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, issued on Wednesday said that dry day has been declared in the entire district on October 23 on account of Dussehra, a national festival.
The NH7 Bacardi Weekender is slated to be held at Bhoirymbong, Ri Bhoi district, on October 23 and 24.
