Traditional heads to hold rally on Oct 30

SHILLONG:  Unhappy over delay in the passing of the Village Administration Bills passed by KHADC and JHADC, the traditional  village heads under the banner of   Synjuk Ki Nongshynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH)  have decided to hold  a protest march in the city on October 30.
This was announced by SNSBH president Dr Werlock Kharshiing here on Saturday.
The rally will start from Lachumiere
Stating that the State Government does not have the will  to put pressure on the Governor V Shanmuganathan to give his assent to the VAB passed by KHADC and JHADC, he said, “The State government is trying to strengthen its ordinance and is preparing to come up with a fresh Bill which is very much against the wish of indigenous community.”
He also lambasted the State Governor for the delay saying “he is following the State government’s advice.”
Recalling the assurance given by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma during a meeting held in March that his government would not infringe into the subjects of the district councils, Kharshiing said, “Unfortunately, his action is saying something else.”
Meanwhile, the Synjuk also expressed concern over the lackadaisical attitude of the government in resolving the issue related to the alleged encroachment by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) into scheduled areas.
