PWD office gutted

NONGSTOIN: Properties worth lakh of rupees along with important documents were gutted when a fire broke out at the PWD office in Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi   Hills, on Saturday midnight.
Fire tenders from Mawkyrwat were pressed in service to douse the flames. It took them several hours to bring the blaze under control.
Short circuit is said to be the reason for the fire, police source said on Sunday. The total loss is being assessed by PWD officials with no official figure being released on the estimated loss which is stated to run into lakhs.
