SHILLONG: RTI activist Michael N Syiem on Friday informed that the campaigners will meet to plan for further actions to lobby the Government to set up an investigating wing and a prosecuting wing under the Lokayukta.
“It is a very strong Act that will monitor the rank and file. We will hold a meeting shortly to put additional pressure on the State government but the ministers are reluctant to work out for a full fledged Lokayukta,” he said.
The Selection Committee consists of the Chief Minister as Chairperson, besides the Leader of the Opposition, Speaker, Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya or a High Court judge nominated by the Chief Justice and an eminent person nominated by the Governor.
It may be reminded that the Campaign for an Independent Lokayukta in Meghalaya comprising of several civil society groups have been demanding immediate sitting of the Selection Committee to constitute the Search Committee for a Lokayukta in a transparent manner and make the selection public.
