Centenary celebration
The Director of Health Services (Research etc.) has informed that the Pasteur Institute, Shillong is celebrating 100 years of public service. All the retired staff of the Directorate of Health Services (Research etc.) have been invited to attend the Centenary celebration of the institute on November 4 at 11:30am.
Section 144 CrPC
The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting dumping of coal along NH 44 and Shillong Bypass. The order was enforced on information that where trucks are unloading and selling excess coal in Puriang village, East Khasi Hills, putting at risk the safety and interest of the public at large.
The District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills, has imposed Section 144 CrPC prohibiting plying of plying of heavy multi-axle trucks through the bridges on Umthli-Maweit-Nongkulang road in the district in view of the weak dilapidated condition of the bridge.
The Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Mairang Civil Sub Division, West Khasi Hills, has promulgated Section 144 CrPC prohibiting plying of heavy vehicles carrying weight more than nine tons plying through Mairang-Ranigodown-Azara NEC road in view of the weak condition of the BUG Bridge No 57/1 over river Khri located 57 km on the said road.
Change of venue
The District Planning Officer, East Khasi Hills has informed that due to the non-availability of U Soso Tham Auditorium, the scheduled programme for the National Unity Day celebration on October 31 at 7am will be held in the open space in front of the Museum at State Central Library, Shillong.
Notice to contractors
The Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), North Jowai Division, Jowai has informed all concerned contractors under North Jowai that their security deposits which are lying outstanding in the deposit register for more than three years will be forfeited to Government Revenue if not claimed within 30 days from October 30.
Free eye camp
A free mega eye camp was held on Friday at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai, jointly organized by the Bansara Eye Care and office of the West Jaintia Hills District Medical & Health Officer in collaboration with the District Administration and the office of the Superintendent of Police. 478 patients underwent checkup in the camp and availed of free medicines.
International conference
The Department of Zoology, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, in collaboration with Meghalaya Water Resources Development Agency, Indian Council of Social Science and Research, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, and Change.NGO.Org, is organizing an International Conference on Water Resource Management in the Eastern Himalayan Region on November 4-5.
Book released
A book titled “Impact of Research Projects on Quality of Research in Chemistry” edited by Dr. Shakira S. Islam, HoD, Chemistry, Synod College, Shillong, and published by Akansha Publishing House, New Delhi, was released by Prof. Dhruba Jyoti Saikia, Vice Chancellor, Cotton College University, Guwahati, at a function at Synod College on Wednesday.
Bhupendra Sangeet
To commemorate the fourth death anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the Assam Club, Laban is organizing a Bhupendra Sangeet competition on November 1 on the club premises from 11am. A memorial function will also be held at the same venue on November 5 at 6pm.
SVEEP compaign
A kite flying show cum competition was organised on Friday at Ampati Indoor Stadium grounds in South West Garo Hills by the District Election office kick starting the Systematic Voters Education and Enrollment Participation (SVEEP) campaign for this year.
Lecture cum interaction
The Mei-Ramew Youth Network will organize a lecture cum interaction programme on November 4 at the Multiuse Convention Hall, NEHU on the theme, “The future we want: Indigenous perspective and actions. The chief speaker is Winnona LaDuke, an American writer and environmentalist.
Inauguration
The 48th branch of the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd. will be inaugurated at Mawngap on November 2 at 11:30am. HDR Lyngdoh, Minister for Cooperation, will be the chief guest.
Headman elected
W.H.D. Syngkon has been elected as the headman of Mawkhar in the Dorbar Shnong held on October 17 at Khasi National Dorbar Hall. Arwan Singh Tariang and B.P. Toi were elected as the assistant headmen.
Vigilance Awareness Week
Along with the other parts of the State and the country, the district administration of West Garo Hills also observed the Vigilance Awareness Week from October 26- 30 in the district. The pledge for ensuring transparency in functioning of government offices and maintaining of integrity with compassion for the people in a service oriented framework was administered by DC Pravin Bakshi. Similar programmes were organised by all the six C&RD blocks in Garo Hills where the pledge was taken.
ICAR interaction programme
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri Bhoi, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research observed the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG), translated as ‘My Village, My Pride’ on October 29 at Kdonghulu village under Umsning C&RD Block. 52 farmers participated in an interaction programme and discussed agronomy, horticulture, home science and plant protection. Two SHGs – Imlang and Tyllilang – were selected to implement the MGMG programme.
